Today, we take you on a virtual ride to our CMS particle detector! 🎢 The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a general-purpose detector that uses a huge solenoid magnet to bend the paths of particles from collisions in the #LHC. 🧲 It deals with broad physics programmes ranging from studying the Standard Model (including the Higgs boson) to searching for extra dimensions and particles that could make up dark matter. This collaboration at the CMS Experiment at CERN brings together over 4000 particle

🕶 Discover CERN in Virtual Reality with this short clip. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a general-purpose detector at the LHC. It has a broad physics programme ranging from studying the Standard Model (including the Higgs boson) to searching for extra dimensions and particles that could make up dark matter. Al

Dive into the heart of the Compact Muon Solenoid - CMS experiment with this 360 video! With the LHC switched off for a two-year technical stop, the CMS collaboration is replacing the beam pipe that runs through the centre of the detector. The new pipe will allow the extremities of the future pixel detectors to get even closer to where the particles collide. Find out more about what CMS has in store as part of #UpgradingLHC: https://home.cern/news/news/experiments/whats-store-cms-detector-over-ne

It's not easy to measure electrons and photons at the LHC and we need these particles to study more elusive particles. For example, one way to see the Higgs Boson is by finding two photons 🔎💡💡🔍 Want to learn how we find electrons and photons? 🔆▶️ https://cms.cern/news/finding-electrons-and-photons-cms-detector | CMS Experiment at CERN

This video displays a 3D reconstruction of a collision event resulting from antiprotons annihilating with ordinary matter, and subsequently transforming into other particles. The event was called an “annihilation star”, and has been recorded at the CERN’s AEgIS experiment with an emulsion detector that, like a photographic film, takes snap-shots of the antiprotons’ annihilation. The developed emulsion was scanned with a microscope with the depth field of a few microns. Read more about antimatter

Proton collisions at the LHC end on a high(-luminosity) note 💫 During this year, an exceptional volume of data was collected at a collision energy of 13.6 teraelectronvolts (TeV). The integrated luminosity, which relates to the number of collisions recorded in a given amount of time, reached 125 inverse femtobarns for the ATLAS and CMS experiments, and the total is more than 520 inverse femtobarns since 2010. Watch to find out more about what this means. 👇 | CERN

🚀 Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) – the heart of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider experiments! ⚛️ The CMS is a massive particle detector that wraps around a collision point where protons smash together at nearly the speed of light. Its job is to track and measure the particles produced in those collisions, helping physicists hunt for new physics like the Higgs boson and exotic particles. 🔹 How it works: Magnetic field: A powerful superconducting solenoid creates a 4‑Tesla magnetic field that bends cha
